How to Care for Leather Shoes So They Last for Years
Quality leather shoes are an investment, and like any investment they need a little maintenance to pay off. The difference between shoes that look tired after one winter and shoes that look better after five is not luck or price β it is a handful of habits that take minutes a week.
None of this is difficult, and you do not need a cupboard full of products. You need a brush, a tin of conditioner, some polish, and the discipline to not wear the same pair two days running.
Rotate and rest your shoes
This is the single most important habit, and it costs nothing. Leather absorbs moisture from your feet all day and needs at least twenty-four hours to dry out fully before you wear it again. Wear the same pair every day and that moisture never leaves, the leather breaks down faster, and the shape collapses.

- Wipe off dirt and dust with a soft horsehair brush
- Condition the leather every few weeks to keep it supple
- Polish to protect the surface and restore the colour
- Insert cedar shoe trees between wears to absorb moisture
- Let wet shoes dry naturally, away from direct heat
