Dressing for Your Body Shape: Forget the Rules

Dressing for Your Body Shape: Forget the Rules

For years, fashion advice has sorted people into shapes — pear, apple, hourglass — and handed out rules accordingly. "Avoid horizontal stripes." "Cinch the waist." "Draw attention upward." Most of this advice is both reductive and outdated.

Wear what makes you feel confident

Confidence is the best outfit anyone can wear. If a pair of wide-leg trousers makes you feel powerful, wear them — regardless of what a 1990s magazine would say. Style is self-expression, not a set of corrections to apply to your silhouette.

What actually flatters everyone

There are a few universal principles: good fit matters more than shape, colour and texture draw the eye where you choose, and proportion creates visual interest. Beyond that, the "rules" are mostly noise.
